About Mykonos The white – clad town of Chora or Mykonos stretches in the shape of a board horseshoe over a plain around the harbour. In the harbour are the characteristic windmills the “the trade mark” of Mykonos. To the north rises the small hill with the castle, with the hill of Kato Myli to the south. The traditional Cycladic settlement of Mykonos has retained its uniformity thanks to the use of white as a common colour, and the construction of houses of the same height. In Kastro, the earliest neighborhood of Mykonos, is to be found Panagia Paraportiani. Next to the church is a picturesque neighborhood known as the Venice o Mykonos. Ano Meria, east of Chora, is almost at the heart of the island. After that are located the beaches of Kalaphati, Kato Livadi and Elia. North – west of Ano Meria is the hill of Paliokastro, with the ruins of a Venetian castle. At the picturesque village of Marathi there is an interesting monastery, with the beaches of Panormos and Phtelia. South of Chora are Psarou and Platis Gialos, from which caiques make excursions to Paranga, Kalamopodi, Blydri, Agrari and Elia.
